How do I stop Bulk email?
Posted In: Spam & Bulk Mail by admin
I am not willing to read any mail from people I don’t know in case of viruses – I am still basically wary of computers and have still to find my way.
I find it annoying when people try to contact me in this manner and the time it takes me to delete all messages.
Call me old fashioned but I believe in protocol.
I don’t think you can actually stop all bulk mail. What I do is point to Bulk and then Empty and its gone. This way you can see if you want to open any of the bulk, but it’s always just junk mail, don’t open any, click on Empty. Hope this helps.
As long as you use a web based email server, you will always have spam, until all of the spammers are KILLED! The only thing you should check for in bulk mail, is mail from people you know, or companies that you actually subscribe to that may have inadvertently ended up in there. Check them as NOT SPAM so they are added to your address book, and go to your inbox. Everything else in your bulk mail folder is GARBAGE. Don’t open it, just DELETE IT!
You can delete the entire contents of your bulk mail and trash folders en masse by clicking the EMPTY link to the right of the Bulk Mail and Trash links in your folders list. You don’t have to delete each letter individually.
Thanks for asking. Along with our usual advice to use the anti-Spam tools included in your Yahoo! Mail account, like SpamGuard, Filters and Message Blocking, we’ve put together a few tips.
Here you go:
Never respond to unsolicited email (i.e., spam). To the individuals who send spam, one response or “hit” among thousands of mailings is enough to justify the practice.
Never respond to the spam email’s instructions to “remove me from this list”. This is a ploy to get you to react to the email and will alert the sender that your email address is open and available to receive mail, which greatly increases its value. If you reply, your address may be placed on more lists, resulting in more spam.
Never click on a link or web site address listed within a spam email. This could alert the site to the validity of your email address, potentially resulting in more spam.
Never sign up with sites that promise to remove your name from spam lists.
Although some of these sites may be legitimate, more often than not, they are address collectors. The legitimate sites are ignored (or exploited) by the spammers, and the address collection sites are owned by spammers. In both cases, your address is recorded and valued more highly because you have just identified that your address is active.
You can choose how long you want to keep messages in your Bulk folder. You can keep messages for one week, two weeks or one month. The default setting is one month. You can also choose to delete them right when you get them—see ya!
To choose the length of time you keep messages in your Bulk folder:
Click Options in the upper-right corner of your Mail page.
Under Spam, click Spam Protection.
Under “For messages SpamGuard recognizes as Spam”, choose either:
“Immediately delete these messages upon receipt”, or
“Save these messages in the Bulk folder for…” (then select your desired interval from the pull-down menu.)
Important: Occasionally, valid email messages may be perceived as spam and delivered to the Bulk folder. If you select “Immediately delete these messages upon receipt”, you will not have an opportunity to review the messages in your Bulk folder before they’re deleted.
Click Save Changes.
